NOPD, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect Wanted in Recent Violent Crime Spree

NOPD, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect Wanted in Recent Violent Crime Spree

On September 27, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) and the U.S. Marshals arrested Jamal Peters (black male, DOB: 06-17-1988) in the investigations of multiple violent crimes that occurred between September 23-26 in the Eighth and Fifth districts.

Through investigation, NOPD Eighth District detectives developed and positively identified Peters as the perpetrator in four incidents, including:

  • An aggravated battery by cutting incident that occurred on September 23 in the 600 block of Bourbon Street, in the Eighth District.
  • An aggravated battery by cutting incident that occurred on September 23 at the intersection of Bourbon and Toulouse streets, in the Eighth District.
  • An aggravated burglary incident that occurred on September 25 in the 1300 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, in the Fifth District.
  • An armed robbery with a knife incident that occurred on September 26 in the 1100 block of Chartres Street, in the Eighth District.

On September 27, VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Peters, who was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on two counts of aggravated battery by cutting, two counts of simple criminal damage to property and two counts of criminal damage to property, as well as on one count each of domestic violence abuse battery by strangulation, second-degree battery and aggravated burglary,

Investigation is ongoing as to Peters’ possible involvement in additional incidents.
