NOPD Investigates Traffic Fatality on Audubon Street

The NOPD Traffic Division is investigating a fatality involving a motorcyclist on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to an accident involving a motorcyclist in the 2900 block Audubon Street. Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned the driver of an SUV was traveling westbound on Fig Street when he came to the intersection and proceeded to make a right turn on Audubon.

At the same time, the operator of the GSXR 750 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed lakebound on Audubon. The motorcyclist then struck the rear driver side tire of the SUV.

The driver of the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victim's name, upon completion of autopsy.

Fatality Investigator Collin Munster is in charge of the investigation and can be contacted at 504-658-6208.
