The NOPD quickly arrested Derrell Hilton (DOB: 12/17/1994) for his involvement in two armed robbery incidents reported today (Sept. 29).

Around 2:15 p.m., two male victims were sitting inside of a vehicle in the 1400 block of Sixth Street when Hilton reportedly pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded money. When the victims displayed their empty wallets, Hilton took both of their cell phones and took off toward Sixth Street.

Then, around 2:30 p.m., Hilton robbed two female victims at the intersection of Second and Coliseum Street. A male subject, who was with the two female victims, started chasing Hilton. At that time, the Hilton pointed a handgun at him. During the robbery, one of the victims was able to get the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle, which was described as a white, Toyota Camry.

While officers searched the area for the arrested suspect, at around 2:54 p.m., a HANO officer observed the suspect’s vehicle and immediately pursued it. A second suspect, who was riding inside of Hilton’s vehicle, got out of the car and started running. Hilton, who was driving the vehicle, eventually crashed into a tree at the intersection of Cohn and Joliet Street.  He was then seen running away from the scene. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and after a brief search, officers located Derrell Hilton near the corner of Hickory and Cambronne Street.

Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle Hilton was driving had been reported stolen from the 3000 block of Gravier Street on September 25, 2016.

Hilton is charged with possession of the stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a movable and flight from an officer. Hilton is expected to be booked with four counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
