NOPD Catches Burglary Suspect in the Act

NOPD First District officers arrested Sean Devitt (DOB: 01-19-1991) yesterday (Sept. 27) after he was caught burglarizing a home in the 3500 block of Iberville Street.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area around noon. When they arrived, officers found a broken window pane in a rear door of a residence. Officers also found an axe on the rear porch, believed to have been used to break the window. In searching the residence, police found an individual - later identified as Devitt - hiding in an upstairs closet with a purse belonging to the homeowner. Devitt was arrested and charged with simple burglary at that location.

Upon transportation to Central Lockup for booking, Devitt was also charged in four additional incidents in the Sixth District. These include:

  • A simple burglary of a residence in the 1400 block of Constance Street on September 4, 2016
  • A simple burglary of a residence in the 1300 block of Constance Street on September 6, 2016
  •  An attempted simple burglary of a residence in the 900 block of Thalia Street on September 15, 2016
  •  A theft in the 1000 block of Thalia Street on September 15, 2016
