Tip from Citizen Helps NOPD to Arrest Suspect in Multiple Domestic Violence Incidents

A woman wanted for multiple incidents involving domestic violence is behind bars today (September 1, 2016) after police received a tip from a citizen on where the suspect was staying.

Yesterday, the NOPD asked for the public’s help in locating Shakirah Moore (DOB: 01-23-1994) for several incidents involving domestic violence. After the information about Moore's warrants was publicized, a citizen advised an NOPD officer where Moore was living. Officers went to the location and informed Moore's relatives that Moore was sought by police on several charges. A few hours later, Moore turned herself in to NOPD and was booked accordingly.

Moore was wanted on one count of disturbing the peace, issued on June 4, 2016. In this incident, officers initially responded to a disturbance in the 14700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim, identified as Moore’s aunt, had called police stating that she and Moore had engaged in an argument. The victim said she heard what she believed to be Moore cocking a gun, at which time she returned to her home and called police. Both were issued misdemeanor summonses for disturbing the peace, but Moore failed to appear to receive the summons.

Moore was also wanted on one count each of violation of protective orders and domestic simple battery, issued on August 19, 2016. At about 11:13 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Carondelet Street in response to a reported domestic disturbance. In speaking to the victim, police learned that he was involved in a verbal confrontation with his ex-girlfriend, identified as Moore, which became physical. The victim also had a protective order against Moore, due to a previous domestic violence incident. Moore fled the scene when the victim stated that he called police.

A third warrant for Moore’s arrest was issued on August 28, 2016, for disturbing the peace by threats in the 1100 block of South Salcedo Street. At about 3:45 p.m., officers responded to the area to investigate a disturbance. Upon arrival, the victim told police that had been harassed by Moore on previous occasions and, while on the front porch of a residence with an infant child, Moore approached and attempted to start a fight. The victim refused, at which time she said Moore spat on her and followed the victim inside of the residence before leaving the scene.

In addition to the NOPD warrants, Moore is also wanted by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office on two additional warrants for charges of shoplifting and simple battery, both issued on May 30, 2016.
