NOPD Arrests Suspect for Child-Abuse-Related Firearms Violation in Second District

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Child Abuse Section have arrested 25-year-old Lindell Mays for Responsibilities of Owners of Firearms with Respect to Minors. The offense occurred today, October 2, 2022, shortly before 4:00 P.M., at the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and General Taylor Street.

According to investigators, Second District officers responded to a call of a shooting, and upon their arrival, officers located a 4-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his body. Emergency Medical Technicians transported the victim to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the victim was injured as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mays was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center where he was booked accordingly.
