NOPD Investigating a Traffic Fatality on I-10 East Highrise

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred today (October 25, 2021) on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 along the downslope of the highrise.

At around 1:18 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a four-vehicle traffic accident involving injury at the location.  Upon arrival, officers found one deceased unknown adult male and four other occupants of the various vehicles--none of whom reported significant injuries.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the deceased victim was ejected onto the highway after his Honda (vehicle #1), for unknown reasons, became disabled.  Traffic investigators believe, soon after, the driver of a Crown Victoria (Vehicle #2) struck the Honda as well as the victim. Separately, the driver of an Infiniti (Vehicle #3) stopped at the accident and was struck in the back by a Nissan (Vehicle #4).  All drivers stayed on scene and are cooperating with investigators.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will officially identify the victim in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Michael Baldassaro is in charge of this ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6215 with any additional information.
