ARRESTED: Suspect Apprehended for Illegal Possession of Firearm in Eighth District

The NOPD has arrested Michael Harris (DOB: 11-02-1995) on gun possession charges in an incident that occurred in the 100 block of Bourbon Street on October 20, 2018.

At about 3:00 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were proactively patrolling the 100 block of Bourbon Street on foot when they came upon an apparent disturbance between a pedestrian and a driver. As the officers neared, they saw the pedestrian duck and hastily retreat from the proximity of the vehicle. The officers observed within the vehicle a handgun, which was later found to have been loaded. An individual later identified as Harris was detained at the scene and, upon further investigation, a subsequent criminal history check revealed Harris was on parole until 2024 for a conviction on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and aggravated flight form an officer.

Harris was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the Oct. 20 incident.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080.
