ARRESTED: NOPD Quickly Arrests Suspect in Armed Robberies in Seventh District

The NOPD has arrested Hao Luu (DOB: 07-25-1987) in connection with two armed robbery incidents that occurred during the early hours today (October 11, 2018) in the Seventh District.

At about 4:51 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Waffle House restaurant in the 5800 block of Read Boulevard. Investigators learned that an unknown male had allegedly entered the business, walked up to the cashier and stated that he was going to rob the restaurant. The subject then allegedly unzipped his jacket, displaying a firearm to the victim. The subject demanded money from the cash register. The cashier complied and the subject fled the scene.

Minutes later, at about 5:09 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to a second armed robbery incident, reported at the Waffle House in the 11900 block of N. I-10 Service Road. Investigators learned that an unknown male - later identified as Luu - had entered the business, walked up to the register and asked an employee if she was the manager. The victim replied that she was the manager, at which time the subject allegedly demanded money and implied that he had a gun. The victim complied, and the subject fled the business. As the subject was exiting, he was apprehended by NOPD officers. A search of the subject revealed a semi-automatic handgun in the arrested subject’s waistband.

Through investigation, detectives determined Luu to be the perpetrator in both armed robbery incidents and that the firearm found in Luu’s possession was reported as stolen.

Luu was arrested and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for two counts each of armed robbery with a firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon, as well as a charge of illegal possession of a stolen firearm.

Anyone with additional information on these incidents is asked to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
