Suspect Arrested for Murder of His Child

Today (October 17, 2017), the New Orleans Police Department arrested 45-year-old Mark Hambrick, a local man, and booked him with one count of second degree murder and second degree cruelty to a juvenile, of his 18-month-old daughter.  

The offense was reported this morning (Oct. 17), at approximately 7:03 a.m, in the 3100 block of North Rampart Street. 

According to investigators, Fifth District officers responded to a call of a stabbing inside a home on North Rampart Street. Upon arrival, officers found the toddler female victim inside of the home, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers also located the child’s father, Mark Hambrick outside on the porch where he was placed under arrest without incident.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim was stabbed and suffocated by her father, Mark Hambrick. Hambrick, later called the police and advised that he had killed his daughter and that he would be outside waiting for the police to come and arrest him.  

Detectives recovered the weapon from the scene.

Based on the facts of the investigation, detectives booked Hambrick with one count of second degree murder and second degree cruelty to a juvenile. The investigation is ongoing.
