A celebration of life vigil will be held in memory of NOPD Officer Marcus McNeil today (Wednesday, October 18, 2017) at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Seventh District station, 10101 Dwyer Road near Read Boulevard. The public is invited to attend this event.
On Friday, October 13, 2017, McNeil was shot and killed in the line of duty in the 6800 block of Cindy Place.
Those who come to the event are asked to bring blue and black balloons, as well as candles for the vigil.
An account has been established through Whitney Bank for anyone wishing to donate in support of McNeil's family. The account title is "Marcus McNeil Benefit Fund," and donations can be made at any Whitney Bank branch.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 3933 Washington Avenue, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, at Household of Faith Church, 9300 I-10 Service Road, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue.
