Vehicle and Suspect Sought in Carjacking on North Claiborne

Vehicle and Suspect Sought in Carjacking on North Claiborne

The NOPD is searching for a suspect and a stolen vehicle in connection to a carjacking that occurred on October 3, 2016.

 

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the victim reported he was stopped at the red light in the 6400 block of North Claiborne Avenue when the perpetrator jumped through the front passenger window of his car and produced a semi-automatic weapon. The unknown male demanded the victim start driving and threatened to kill him.

 

The victim was forced to drive his vehicle to the intersection of Buffalo Street and Curran Road. There the two exited the vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation before the perpetrator took the victim’s key and fled in the vehicle. It was last seen headed westbound on Curran Road.    

 

The stolen vehicle is a green 2001 Toyota Camry with Louisiana license plate number 583AHR.  A photo of a similar make and model is included below.

 

The perpetrator is described as a black male, approximately 5’7” tall with a stocky build and a low bush hairstyle. He has a brown complexion and was wearing a red and black hat, white long-sleeve shirt and dark pants. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Carjacking

Louisiana law states that Individuals convicted of carjacking shall be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than two years and for not more than 20 years, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
