The NOPD Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of an unidentified female who appears to be in her late 30s. The incident was reported around 10:42 a.m., near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Clara Street.
Officers were called out to investigate a call of a female shot. Upon arrival officers found the unresponsive victim lying face down on the sidewalk on Jackson Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wounds to the head area. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The investigation is on-going and detectives are investigating to determine a motive and a suspect(s) in the incident.
The Coroner's office will release the identity of the victim once her family is notified.
