A break in a nearly three-year-old simple burglary case has led the NOPD to obtain an arrest warrant for Troy Johnson (DOB: 10-15-1964) in connection with a simple burglary which occurred on November 5, 2013 in the 3400 block of St. Charles Avenue.
At about 11:35 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to a vehicle burglary in the area. The victim told police that while standing in the parking lot of the Rite Aid pharmacy at 3401 St. Charles Avenue, an unknown black male subject wearing all black clothing and a New Orleans Saints cap ran up to her vehicle and stole her purse from the vehicle’s front seat. The victim began chasing the suspect as he ran northbound on Louisiana Avenue and then westbound. As the victim chased the suspect, the cap fell from the suspect’s head and was found by a citizen in the area. The victim released the cap to NOPD detectives, who submitted it for DNA testing.
On June 23, 2016, a DNA match was found from the sample taken from the hat, matching that of Johnson. The witness also identified Johnson from a photographic lineup as the suspect in the incident.
