NOPD Investigating Homicide in Second District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (November 12, 2025) in the 8200 block of Stroelitz Street, in the Second District, and left a 16-year-old juvenile male deceased.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., NOPD Second District officers responded to call of a shooting in the 8400 block of Palmetto Street. Upon arrival, officers located the victim on scene and found him to have sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was declared deceased on scene. Upon further investigation, the incident was determined to have occurred in the 8200 block of Stroelitz Street.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the victim was approached by several unidentified males and then shot. The victim was wearing a school uniform and carrying a backpack, leading detectives to believe that the victim had been coming home from school at the time of the incident.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as to determine motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
