NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this morning (November 15, 2024) in the 600 block of Commerce Street that left a local New Orleans man dead. 

Around 6:05 a.m. NOPD Eighth District officers responded to the call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male with at least one gunshot wound. EMS arrived on scene, and the victim was declared deceased. 

An adult male subject was detained on scene for questioning. No arrests have been made at this time. 

Detectives are in the process of gathering information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident as well as a motive. No additional information is currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and to officially identify the victim. Announcement of this information will come from the Coroner’s Office.
