NOPD Makes Quick Arrest in Fifth District Homicide

NOPD officers have arrested James Spriggens (black male, DOB: 08-13-1986) moments after he allegedly committed a homicide in the 5100 block of St. Claude Avenue earlier today (November 10, 2022).

Just before 8:00 a.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Officers located a male victim inside of a business suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced by EMS to be dead on scene.

With the help of witnesses and security video footage, officers learned that the incident stemmed from an argument between the victim and perpetrator. Officers were also able to obtain a description of the perpetrator. A short time later, officers located and arrested an individual matching the description, later identified as Spriggens.

Spriggens was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine official cause of death and release the victims’ name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call Homicide Detective Nick Davis at (504) 658-5300.
