NOPD Investigating Homicide in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that was reported during the early morning hours today (November 16, 2022) in the 6300 block of Peoples Avenue.

At about 12:05 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to the location for a report of an individual having been struck by a passing train. Upon arrival, officers located an unknown and unresponsive male subject lying on the train tracks. The subject was declared deceased on scene and the incident was initially ruled an unclassified death.

During further investigation, the deceased subject was found to have sustained gunshot wounds and was determined to be the victim of a homicide. At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
