Multi-Agency Initiative Lead to Suspect Arrested for Terrorizing

The New Orleans Police Department’s Intelligence Division, Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office, UNO Police and the United States Marshals worked in concert to arrest 22-year-old Karam Mohammed Ahatel in connection with Terrorizing, Stalking, and Unlawful Disruption of the Operation of a School. The offense occurred on Friday, November 18, 2022.

According to investigators, made credible threats against the University of New Orleans.

Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives positively identified Ahatel as the person responsible and secured an arrest warrant.

On Monday, (November 21, 2022) Ahatel was apprehended by JPSO, transported to the Orleans Justice Center and booked accordingly.

Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said, “Keeping our community safe is our number one priority. The swift actions of our law enforcement partners and the community working together prevented what could have been a tragic event.”

The investigation is ongoing.
