The NOPD has recently been awarded a year-long grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, as part of the statewide agency’s mission to aid in the reduction of fatal and injury vehicle crashes on Louisiana roadways.
Through this grant, funding will be provided by the LHSC that will allow NOPD to staff officers in conducting additional high visibility safety enforcement activities throughout 2021. These activities include additional DWI checkpoints, speeding enforcement, seat belt enforcement, bicycle/pedestrian awareness and underage drinking awareness.
“This grant funding is a valuable asset to our mission to protect and serve the citizens of and visitors to the City of New Orleans,” NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said. “We are grateful to our partners at LHSC for their assistance in this mission and will use these funds to staff and support programs aimed at protecting drivers, passengers, bicyclists, pedestrians and all who travel on our roadways each day.”
