NOPD Officers Run Alongside Students at Family Fun Run

NOPD Seventh District officers strapped on their tennis shoes and ran alongside students with Youth Run NOLA at the Family Fun Run on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Joe W. Brown Memorial park.

Officers Monica McLaurin, Tyrone Mills, Kevin Nguyen and Frank Vitrano participated in the 2-mile run, which attracted more than 200 Youth Run NOLA students and their families to the park’s running track on Read Boulevard.

“We feel incredibly grateful that officers from NOPD's Seventh District joined us on race day and ran and walked alongside the kids," said Youth Run NOLA’s Executive Director Denali Lander.

Youth Run NOLA is an after school nonprofit organization based in St. Bernard parish that serves more than 600 students throughout the city. The program encourages healthy habits by empowering students through running. Saturday’s event was presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic.

Youth Run NOLA was one of several organizations that partnered with the NOPD for the 2016 Night Out Against Crime in October.
