NOPD Investigating Incident at Dillard University
The NOPD is investigating a report of a 108 on the campus of Dillard University on Gentilly Boulevard that happened shortly before 11 a.m.

Based on the preliminary investigation, a Dillard Campus Police Officer was responding to an alleged fight on campus. At that time, the officer observed a vehicle, described as a white Lexus with tinted windows, attempting to leave campus. The officer believed the occupants of the vehicle may have been involved in the incident. The officer told NOPD that he attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and drove toward the direction of the officer. The officer said he then got out of the way of the vehicle and retrieved his weapon. At that point, a shot was fired.

The shot did not strike anyone and no injuries have been reported at this time.

The vehicle was last seen heading down Gentilly Boulevard in an unknown direction.

The Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team is handling the criminal investigation into the use of force. The Dillard Police Department is handling the administrative investigation.

FIT is the lead on any officer-involved shootings involving any outside agency, including campus police, that happens within Orleans Parish, with the exception of federal law enforcement and LSP as they have jurisdiction statewide.

The investigation is still in its early stages and there is no additional information to report at this time.
