NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for May 18-24, 2025

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of May 18-24, 2025.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On May 22, 2025, the NOPD arrested Casey Smith (black female, DOB: 11-19-1994) for allegedly assisting two of the 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16, 2025. Smith was located at a residence in the Third District and was arrested on one count of accessory after the fact to simple escape.
  • On May 23, the NOPD arrested Jernell Brown (black male, DOB: 08-08-2006) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on May 13, 2025, at the intersection of 2nd and Clara streets. Brown was arrested on one count of second-degree murder.
  • On May 23, the NOPD's Special Operations Tactical II Investigations Team made additional arrests in the continued search for 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16. Arrested were Emmitt Weber (black male, DOB: 03-29-1997) and Connie Weeden (black female, DOB: 08-07-1965), who were each charged with one count of accessory after the fact to simple escape

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 125 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 52-percent decrease compared to 261 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of May 19, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 735 firearms in criminal investigations, a 28-percent decrease compared to 1,033 such seizures made during the same period in 2024.
