NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide today (May 6, 2021) in the 1700 block of Robert C. Blakes Sr. Drive that left one person dead and another injured.

At about 2:49 a.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the intersection of St. Charles and Jackson avenues. Initial reports showed two victims with gunshot wounds in this incident – a male victim transported via private conveyance to a local hospital and a second male victim discovered at the scene.

One of the victims in this incident was later declared deceased. At that time, NOPD's Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
