The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred in the 7500 block of Downman Road. 

Tonight, May 4, 2021, around 8:40 p.m., Seventh District officers received a call regarding a single vehicle accident in the area. Through the course of the investigation, traffic detectives were able to determine that an adult male was driving northbound in the left lane on Downman Road, in a blue 2002 Ford Explorer. At this time, and for reasons unknown the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered into the right lane, hit the curb, then when off the roadway and struck two parked vehicles and the front of a house. The vehicle flipped on its side before coming to rest on the front lawn.

The driver died on the scene. There was one adult male passenger in the vehicle, who was transported to a local hospital by NOEMS. He was listed in stable condition.  

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
