NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested Khutbi Abdelkader (pictured, male, DOB: 05-06-1997) in the investigation of a homicide on May 5, 2021 in the 900 block of Canal Street that left one person dead.

At about 4:52 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the body. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased. At that time, NOPD's Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Through investigation, detectives determined that a verbal altercation had ensued involving Abdelkader and the victim outside of a business. During that altercation, the victim sustained a gunshot wound. Abdelkader was detained at the scene for questioning shortly after police arrived. Through further investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives were able to determine Abdelkader to be the suspected perpetrator and obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of second-degree murder. Abdelkader was arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Jameson Diesburg at 504-658-5300.
