NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District - Tulane Officer Involved Shooting

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that left one adult male dead and two additional individuals critically injured. The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Tulane Avenue.

Officers from the First and Eighth Districts responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims at the location. Upon arrival, officers located three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All three victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One of the individuals later died from his injuries, while the remaining two victims remain in critical condition.

Through the course of the investigation, Investigators determined that the deceased individual was the perpetrator in this incident.

According to investigators, the perpetrator initiated a physical altercation with one victim as the victim was walking in the area. During the struggle, the perpetrator produced a firearm and shot the victim. A second victim, identified as a Tulane University maintenance employee, was also shot by the perpetrator while walking in the proximity of the incident.

As the perpetrator attempted to flee the scene, a Tulane University Police officer engaged the armed subject, discharging their service weapon and striking the perpetrator. The perpetrator was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The NOPD Force Investigation Team (FIT) is conducting a separate investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information is available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased following notification of next of kin and will determine the official cause of death.
