NOPD has arrested Broderick Butler, Black male DOB: 02-29-2000, in connection with the attempted second degree murder of a man in the Sixth District on March 5, 2025.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on the date, the New Orleans Police Department responded to an aggravated battery by shooting in the 1000 block of St. Andrew Street, where Officers located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
Through investigation, detectives determined that two Baton Rouge rival groups had engaged in a shoot-out after exiting a nearby nightclub. Working with Baton Rouge Police, investigators were able to identify Butler as the perpetrator of the shooting.
NOPD Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Butler for attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. BRPD detectives obtained a search warrant for Butler’s residence and vehicle. On March 13, 2025, BRPD Special Response Team, Special Investigations, Crime Scene, and NOPD detectives executed the search warrant. Butler was taken into custody without incident.
The search yielded a stolen 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine, a large sum of cash, drugs and other items pertinent to the investigation (pictured). Butler was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of schedule II drugs, and being a fugitive (from his active NOPD arrest warrant), in addition to the attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon charges.
