NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Third District

The NOPD has arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred yesterday evening (March 13, 2025) at the intersection of Gentilly Boulevard and Elysian Fields Avenue.

At about 8:00 p.m., NOPD Third District officers were dispatched to a call of a hit-and-run vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive adult black female lying in the roadway. EMS arrived on scene and subsequently pronounced the victim to be deceased.

Through further investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives determined that a silver Nissan Altima had struck the victim in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, render aid or leave their contact information and fled the scene.

After clearing the scene, detectives were notified that an adult male subject had contacted the Third District station and stated that the driver of the suspect vehicle wished to surrender to police. Detectives then traveled to the subject’s location in the Seventh District. Upon arrival, detectives located the suspect vehicle and identified the driver of the vehicle as Dominic Sartin (black male, DOB: 07-02-2000). Sartin admitted to driving the vehicle during the incident and fleeing the scene. He surrendered to police and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for hit-and-run driving resulting in a fatality.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives at 504-658-6205.
