NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for March 9-15, 2025

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of March 9-15, 2025.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On March 13, the NOPD arrested Mackenzie Fair (black male, DOB: 11-20-2003) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on February 22, 2025, in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue. Fair, who was found to already be incarcerated in the Orleans Parish Justice Center on unrelated charges, was rebooked with one count of second-degree murder.
  • On March 13, the NOPD arrested Dominic Sartin (black male, DOB: 07-20-2000) in its investigation of a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred that evening at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and Gentilly Boulevard. Sartin surrendered to police after initially fleeing the scene. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in a fatality.
  • On March 13, the Baton Rouge Police and NOPD arrested Broderick Butler (black male, DOB: 02-29-2000) in connection with NOPD’s investigation of an attempted murder on March 5, 2025, in the 1000 block of Saint Andrew Street. Butler was arrested in Baton Rouge and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of Schedule II drugs and on the NOPD’s fugitive warrant, in addition to charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 76 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 56-percent decrease compared to 173 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of March 10, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 341 firearms in criminal investigations, a 44-percent decrease compared to 615 such seizures made during the same period in 2024.
