NOPD Arrests Suspects in Fifth District Vehicle Burglary Incident

On March 8, 2022, the NOPD arrested Johnny Walsh (pictured, black male, DOB: 08-30-1997) and a 17-year-old juvenile black male (not pictured) in the investigation of a vehicle burglary incident that same day in the 3000 block of Chartres Street.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., NOPD Fifth District officers and detectives responded to a vehicle burglary call near Crescent Park. Upon arrival, detectives observed a known juvenile accompanied by an adult subject. The juvenile was observed fleeing the area while holding a firearm, which he subsequently discarded.

A perimeter was set near Saint Claude Avenue and Alvar Street to search for the suspects. With the assistance of NOPD K9 Units, both suspects were apprehended along with backpacks they were carrying during their flight. Walsh was observed hiding one of the backpacks that containing a firearm, while the juvenile was found in possession of burglary tools at the time of his arrest.

The juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center for possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of a firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone and flight from an officer. He was also booked  on multiple outstanding warrants for simple burglary, aggravated assault and attempted second-degree murder.

Walsh was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and flight from an officer.
