NOPD Investigates Fatal Hit-and-Run in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of one adult male in the Seventh District.

On Monday, March 16, 2020 around 8:36 p.m., NOPD officers responded to a call of a hit-and-run near the intersection of Haynes Boulevard & Reel Foot Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from injuries sustained during the incident. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

Through further investigation, officers learned that the driver of an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Haynes Boulevard when the vehicle struck a bicyclist, causing the victim to be ejected from the bicycle.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
