Two Top NOPD Officials Accept Positions with Baltimore Police Department

Deputy Chief of Staff Eric Melancon and Deputy Superintendent for Compliance Danny Murphy have been offered and have accepted positions with the Baltimore Police Department.

Melancon will assume the role of Chief of Staff. In Baltimore, Murphy will transition into a leadership position overseeing compliance with that department’s federal consent decree.

Both positions still require approval from officials in Baltimore.

NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said he is confident the deep pool of qualified candidates will allow a smooth transition once those individuals are identified. Promoting from within will allow NOPD to continue to fulfill its obligations under the federal consent decree without slowing the continuing progress the department is making.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Superintendent Ferguson are committed to maintaining the NOPD’s momentum in pushing forward with the best Constitutional policing practices.

“The progress NOPD has made since the implementation of the federal consent decree would not have been possible without Eric Melancon and Danny Murphy,” Ferguson said. “While we certainly don’t want them to leave, we wish them well and thank them for all they have done.

The last day for both Melancon and Murphy will be March 29.
