UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Shooting on Eads Street

UPDATE: Members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested Dwayne Franklin this morning (March 19, 2018). He will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for attempted second degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Dwayne Franklin (DOB: 07-25-1987) in connection with a shooting that occurred in the early hours today (March 19, 2018) in the 2100 block of Eads Street.

At about 12:07 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival and investigation, the victim told police that he and his nephew, whom he identified as Franklin, were engaged in an argument outside of Frankin’s residence in the 2100 block of Eads Street. During the altercation, the victim said, Franklin allegedly shot him two times in the abdomen. Franklin then reportedly chased the victim as the victim attempted to hide behind a parked car, with Franklin allegedly firing additional gunshots at the victim from close range before fleeing the scene on foot.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Franklin for attempted second degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence. 

Franklin has been described as a black male, standing approximately 5’11” and weighing about 145 pounds.
