NOPD Investigating Fatal Double Shooting on Stroelitz Street

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting incident today (March 16, 2016) in the 8800 block of Stroelitz Street that left one person dead and a second injured.

At about 3:14 p.m., NOPD Second District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the block. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male victim suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators also learned that a second male victim involved in this incident was transported to an area hospital via private conveyance for treatment of apparent gunshot injuries. This individual's involvement in the incident remains under investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive. No further details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
