NOPD Investigating a Traffic Fatality on Jourdan Avenue

The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of an unidentified male motorcyclist. The incident happened at the intersection of Jourdan Avenue and Urquhart Street, this afternoon (June 24).

Around 1:25 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call involving a traffic accident on Jourdan Avenue and Urquhart Street. When they arrived, they discovered the male driver of a Honda motorcycle suffering from injuries he sustained after he collided with a 39-year-old male driver of a gray Dodge Grand Caravan.

Detectives learned that the male motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was traveling northbound on Jourdan Avenue when he collided with the Dodge Grand Caravan that was traveling westbound on Urquhart Street. The driver of the Dodge came to a complete stop before he proceeded into the intersection. As the Dodge Grand Caravan entered onto Jourdan Avenue it collided with the Honda motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene from sustained injuries.

The male driver of the Dodge, who was not injured, was transported by police for DUI testing.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No information on possible charges is available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Collin Munster is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6205 with any information on this incident.
