NOPD has arrested a 17-year-old in connection with two armed carjackings this past weekend, both in the Fifth District.
The suspect is identified as Julio Miguel Daniel, (pictured, Black male, DOB: 05/10/2009).
Daniel was arrested on Sunday June 14, 2026 at about 4:21 p.m. after he was allegedly spotted by Fifth District officers driving one of the stolen vehicles, a gray Nissan, which was taken at gunpoint from the 5000 Block of St. Claude Avenue early that same morning.
As officers were attempting to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Urquhart & France Streets, they say the stolen Nissan struck one of the police vehicles, then the driver Julio Daniel, fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended.
Daniel was jailed following a routine medical examination at a local hospital.
He is currently charged with illegal possession of stolen things, hit & run driving and resisting an officer. A warrant for armed robbery has been issued and he will be re-arrested on that charge today.
Meantime, investigators believe Daniel is also responsible for an armed carjacking the day before (Saturday June 13, 2026), also in the Fifth District. In that case, a meal delivery driver reported being carjacked in the 600 Block of Piety Street as he was getting into his Black Kia to make a delivery just before 8:00 p.m. The Kia was later recovered. Charges in that case are pending.
Anyone with additional information that can assist in either of these cases is asked to contact Fifth District detectives at (504) 658-6050 or Crimestoppers anonymously at (504) 822-1111.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
