The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred today (June 19, 2024) at the merge of I-10 West and I-610 West near the Orleans Parish/Jefferson Parish border and left one driver deceased.
At about 1:43 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered four vehicles believed to have been involved in a crash at the location.
Through investigation, it was determined that a gold Lincoln sedan was traveling in the left lane westbound on Interstate 10 near the Interstate 610 merge when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a white Honda sedan. The Lincoln then traveled through the median and entered the left merge lane of I-610 West, striking a red Ford pickup truck. The two vehicles came to rest at the merger of the two interstates.
The driver of the Lincoln was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased. The driver of the Ford did not report any injuries, while the driver of the Honda self-transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
One additional vehicle also sustained minor damage in the incident.
No additional information is currently available regarding this investigation.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the deceased subject in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
