NOPD Investigating Homicide in Second District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (June 22, 2022) in the 8600 block of Apple Street that left a 2-year-old toddler dead.

At about 6:18 p.m., a medical call was received for a residence in the 8600 block of Apple Street. NOFD First Responders arrived at the location, which was found to be open with no occupants. Shortly thereafter, a call was received that a 2-year-old toddler male with a gunshot wound had arrived at a local hospital via private conveyance, and the incident was determined to be connected to the initial medical call. The child was then transported via EMS to Children’s Hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
