NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Police Department’s Special Victims Division continues its unwavering commitment to investigating crimes involving sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, and other offenses against vulnerable victims.

Through the first half of 2026, SVD detectives investigated 954 cases, including 345 Uniform Crime Reporting rape investigations and 282 Louisiana Revised Statute rape investigations. More than half of all investigations handled by the division involved child abuse, reflecting the Department’s continued focus on protecting children and supporting victims across New Orleans. 

During the second quarter alone, detectives investigated 467 cases, with the majority assigned to the Child Abuse Unit, followed by the Sex Crimes Unit. These investigations included allegations of child abuse, rape, sexual battery, indecent behavior with juveniles, human trafficking, and other serious offenses. 

“Every investigation represents someone who deserves to be heard, supported, and treated with dignity,” said Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. “Our detectives are committed to conducting thorough, victim-centered investigations while working tirelessly to hold offenders accountable and seek justice for survivors.”

Investigations handled by the Special Victims Division often involve extensive forensic evidence, specialized interviews, victim advocacy, and close coordination with prosecutors and community partners. These cases require time, expertise, and a compassionate approach to ensure victims receive the support they need throughout the investigative process.

The New Orleans Police Department encourages anyone who has experienced or witnessed sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, or another crime involving a vulnerable victim to report it. Every report provides investigators with an opportunity to pursue justice, connect evidence, protect victims, and prevent future crimes.
