Fatal crashes and overall traffic crashes continue to decrease in the city of New Orleans underscoring the commitment to public safety through the directed traffic patrols by the NOPD's Traffic Division.  NOPD credits drivers as well for  paying more attention to traffic laws and overall safety.

Last week alone, traffic officers issued 746 traffic citations and conducted 181 vehicle stops throughout the city. The vehicle stops represent a 44% increase in stops over 2025. Additionally, there was one DWI arrest, three traffic arrests and one municipal arrest.

Year-to-date the decline in traffic crashes and fatalities continues with a 21% decrease in fatal accidents compared to 2025 and a 7% decrease in traffic crashes.

Operation Junk Vehicle Sweep Monday July 20, 2026

•            3500 Johnny Jackson Street: 9 junk vehicles removed.

•            3800 Desire Parkway: 1 junk vehicle was removed.

•            3000 Pleasure Street: 4 junk vehicles pending removal.

•            3400 Johnny Jackson Street: 4 abandoned vehicles  pending removal.

"We are pleased to see that drivers appear to be paying more attention on the roadways, slowing down and not getting behind the wheel impaired," says Traffic Division Commander Anthony Micheu.  "However, our officers will continue our directed enforcement in hopes that we can make an even bigger impact. In addition, we are continuing to remove junked and abandoned vehicles in an effort improve the quality of life and safety in our neighborhoods."
