NOPD Investigating Homicide in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the early hours today (July 8, 2026) in the 4700 block of Laine Avenue, in the Seventh District.

At about 5:59 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on scene. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased. The incident was then reclassified as a homicide.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No arrests have been made as of this writing. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and determine the official cause of death following notification of family members and completion of an autopsy.
