NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the early morning hours today (July 8, 2024) at the intersection of Tchoupitoulas Street and Andrew Higgins Boulevard that left one person dead.

At about 1:27 a.m., members of the Orleans Sheriff’s Department working a detail in the area responded to overheard gunfire. Upon arrival, they located an unresponsive adult black male on scene. The victim was declared deceased on scene. Upon further investigation by NOPD Homicide Section detectives, the victim was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
