Felony Arrests Trending Up in 2022

In the month of June 2022, NOPD and its law enforcement partners made more felony arrests than in previous month this year.

In June, 484 individuals were booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on felony charges. The arrests made in June finishes the first half of 2022, showing a steady increase in arrests beginning in January of this year.

Through July 6, 2022, there have been 148 murders in New Orleans. The clearance rate currently stands at 43.2%. Year-to-date, 61 cases have been cleared by arrest, exception, or warrant.

53 of these incidents involved a perpetrator that had, or is believed to have had, a prior relationship with the victim.

Of those 53, nine were domestic in nature.

Over the Fourth of July weekend the Eighth District made 40 illegal firearms arrests and seized a total of 45 illegal weapons.

36 of those arrests occurred on Bourbon Street.

“The steady increase in arrests in 2022 clearly illustrates the men and women of NOPD remain actively engaged in the fight against violent crime in the city of New Orleans,” NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said.
