NOPD Seeking Suspect Vehicle in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating a vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on July 18, 2021 at the intersection of General de Gaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway.

At about 8:51 p.m., the victim was operating his bicycle southbound on Westbend Parkway. At the same time, a dark colored vehicle – possibly a BMW 3 series sedan – was traveling westbound in the left travel lane on General de Gaulle Drive. The bicyclist disregarded the red traffic control light at the intersection of General de Gaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway and was struck by the dark colored vehicle. According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle momentarily stopped the vehicle before fleeing the scene. As a result of the collision, the victim was transported to a local hospital n critical condition and, shortly after his arrival, was pronounced deceased.

Investigators are working to identify the vehicle pictured and its operator/owner. The wanted vehicle would have heavy front-end damage and missing pieces to the front grill. For reference, a stock photo has been included of a vehicle matching the general description of the suspect vehicle.

Anyone with additional information on this incident or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Investigator Danny Ellis at 504-658-6208 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
