NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Fourth District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash this evening (July 18, 2021) at the intersection of General DeGaulle Drive and Westbend Parkway that claimed the life of one victim.

At about 8:51 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival and investigation, officers determined that a bicyclist was traveling southbound on Westbend Parkway attempting to cross the intersection when he disregarded a red traffic light. An unknown automobile traveling westbound on General DeGaulle which had a green traffic light then entered the intersection, struck the bicyclist and continued its travel.

The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Danny Ellis is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6208 with any additional information.
