NOPD Identifies Wanted Suspect in Traffic Fatality Investigation

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Anderson Hawkins (photo not available, black male, DOB: 07-06-1964) in the investigation of a traffic fatality on July 16, 2021 at the intersection of Saint Claude Avenue and Pauger Street.

Through investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators determined that at about 1:30 p.m., the victim was operating her bicycle northbound on Pauger Street. As the victim crossed the intersection of Pauger Street and Saint Claude Avenue, she was struck by an automobile. The operator of the automobile fled the scene without rending aid or making his identity known prior to leaving the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital via EMS for treatment but died from her injuries on July 18.

As the investigation progressed, investigators developed Hawkins as a suspect and later positively identified him as the driver of the automobile.

Hawkins is wanted on a charge of felony hit-and-run driving involving death or serious injury.
