NOPD Investigating Homicide at Maumus Avenue and Bennett Street

NOPD Investigating Homicide at Maumus Avenue and Bennett Street

The NOPD is investigating a double homicide at the intersection of Maumus Avenue and Bennett Street, after the remains of two subjects were found at the scene of a brush fire overnight on July 29, 2018.

At about 11:35 p.m., NOPD Fourth District and NOFD firefighters responded to a brush fire at the location. As crews were extinguishing the fire, they came upon the charred remains of two individuals. Both bodies were burned beyond recognition. After further investigation, both victims' remains showed signs of foul play. The signal was then changed to a homicide.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine official cause of death and release the victims’ names upon completion of autopsy and notification of families.
