NOPD Investigates Eighth District Shooting That Left Two Injured, One Arrested

The NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred this morning (July 27, 2018) at the intersection of Bourbon and Conti Streets involving two male victims.

At about 4:55 a.m., NOPD officers were in the area and heard gun shots being fired near the intersection of Bourbon and Conti Streets. NOPD officers working paid detail and regular patrol were in the area at the time of the incident and responded immediately to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims at the scene, a 37-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, and a 28-year-old male with multiple gun shot wounds to the body. EMS transported the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both victims are now listed in stable condition.

Initial investigation revealed that the 37-year-old victim and the 26-year-old suspect were walking near the intersection of Bourbon and Conti streets in opposite directions, upon arriving at the intersection of Bourbon and Conti streets the shooter pulled out a gun and shot the 37-year-old victim, along with the 28-year-old victim. There was no indication that the subjects were engaged in an altercation prior to the shooting.

NOPD officers made an arrest in the 900 block of Conti Street of Aaron Hill, 10/11/1991. He gave statements indicating that he was the shooter. He was booked with two counts of Aggravated Battery, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Hill is on parole for narcotic violations until November 13, 2018.

Following the review of video footage from the Real Time Crime Center, Eighth District Detectives learned that after the shooting the 37-year-old victim discarded a gun from his waistband.  

Including the arrest made in this morning’s incident, proactive patrol work by NOPD officers has led to 130 guns taken off the streets in the Eighth District this year. They have an 87.5 percent clearance rate on shootings and there have been no murders in the Eighth District this year.

Investigation into this incident is ongoing. Detectives are gathering evidence from the area, including surveillance video footage, as well as interviewing victims and witnesses. No further information is available at this time.
