NOPD Seeks Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash on Frenchmen Street

NOPD has released additional information regarding a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old woman.

At approximately 3:42 a.m. on July 26, 2017, NOPD officers responded to a vehicle crash at Frenchmen and North Dorgenois streets. The subsequent investigation revealed that the 2008 Mercury Milan had been traveling on Frenchmen when it collided with a 2015 Honda CRV. As a result of the impact, the Mercury then struck two residential structures in the 2500 block of Frenchmen before coming to a stop. The driver of the Honda then fled the scene on foot.

The two female occupants of the Mercury Milan were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries, where the 28-year-old passenger later died. The Honda was stolen earlier that day from the 1300 block of Eighth Street.

A witness stated that the Honda’s driver appeared to have suffered multiple injuries in the crash. The driver is described as a black male with a slim build and he reportedly hobbled away from the scene with obvious injuries to his left leg, left arm and his head. He fled the scene traveling eastbound on North Dorgenois toward Elysian Fields.

If you have any information about this incident or the identity of the driver of the Honda please contact Traffic Fatality Detective Edgar Edwards at 504-658-6208, or call the NOPD non-emergency number at 504-821-2222.
